For open areas in which there are no defined escape routes, emergency lighting standards require a minimum level of illuminance of 0.5 Lux to be achieved throughout the core. An emergency lighting luminaire specifically designed for such locations must have widespread distribution of light to achieve not only the minimum illuminance but also excellent uniformity.
