Facebook has announced that ‘core audiences’ are being rolled out in the coming weeks.  This again changes the ad creation flow slightly within the platform, and also adds some interesting new options.  Facebook continues to change it’s system regularly with new rollouts in the quest to monetise the platform as strongly as possible, and below we’ll take you through the latest changes.

The new ad flow will look something like this:

In essence the two main changes to take note of are:

1. Users in the US will now be able to target by partner categories within the main Ads Manager system

2. You will now be able to target by job title

Partner categories are being termed as “Behaviours” in the main advertising creation system.  In essence what they are is partner data that allows you to target by offline activity.  For instance you will be able to target by users who have test driven a certain class of vehicle in the last 3 months, or target people who buy a disproportionate amount of a certain product category for instance.  This adds an extra layer of real-life data onto your targeting and is definitely worth experimenting with.  For UK users, there’s no definitive date as to when we’re going to be able to get this data, but we’re hoping it will be in Q3 or Q4 this year.

Here’s our quick snapshot view of what’s new:

Job title targeting is another powerful addition. We’ve previously written about Facebook including targeting by degree major, and you’ve  been able to target by workplace for some time now although the data around this isn’t massively strong.  Job title is more commonly used, and is a great addition.  Whilst Facebook is still not at the level of B2B targeting of LinkedIn, considering the low number of clicks and interactions on LinkedIn adverts, this allows Facebook to take even more of that market as they make it more accessible for B2B advertisers.

Keep a look out for your Ads Manager system changing as the rollout happens.  Let us know your thoughts and any successes/failures you have with the new options as we’d love to hear how you’re getting on!
