Facebook has finally launched trending content for some users.  This  roll out has been long anticipated since Facebook launched hashtags officially last year.  The presence of the trending content section gives businesses on Facebook new opportunities to increase their reach and their brand awareness in a natural way.

Our video below talks you through the launch, what we expect to see coming next, and how to take advantage for the benefit of your brand:

The key message from the video is that this presents a really strong opportunity for businesses to increase their reach by creating and curating content that is relevant to a trending hashtag.  This will allow you to increase your reach amongst users looking at the trending content stream, and shows what users will be more interested in, and therefore more likely to engage with.  It’s important to not become a hashtag chaser and just go after everything - only got involved in the conversation if it is appropriate and relevant for your brand to do so.

We expect to see sponsored trends in the near future as Facebook continue to monetise the platform - we’re hoping that this works in a slightly more advanced way than Twitter’s which is currently a day’s residency basis.  We’re hoping for more advanced targeting within Facebook’s sponsored trends section based on the wealth of targeting data they possess.
